No city has it better.
Well, here’s at least one restaurant tenant willing to pay the absurdly high rent prices on Abbot Kinney. Blue Star Donuts, the Portland-based fried dough name known for being the not-so-secret alternative to Voodoo, is landing right in the former Elvino Wine Shop, which rebranded last year only to shutter a couple of months ago. Shows you how fast things are flipping over there in Venice.
In keeping with their Portland roots, the 1,000 square foot shop will serve Stumptown Coffee, as well as a slew of new flavors beyond their usual off-the-wall options like blueberry bourbon basil. According to Portland Monthly Magazine, that could include anything from oranges to olive oil to alcohol.
Blue Star currently operates four Portland locations and one in Japan through a partnership with Fred Segal; this will be their first interstate offering, but likely not their last. When it opens later this summer, Blue Star Donuts in Venice will serve daily until 9 p.m. — but don’t expect the doughnuts to actually last that long, as most locations sell out well in advance.
