Loring Place is set to open next week

One of 2016’s most anticipated restaurants is preparing to open its doors in Manhattan: Chef Dan Kluger’s Loring Place hits Greenwich Village next week, nearly two years in the making.

Kluger rose to fame working for French-born global restaurant empresario Jean-Georges Vongerichten as executive chef of ABC Kitchen, which opened back in 2010; there he developed a reputation as a farm-to-table master, and also went on to open sister restaurant ABC Cocina.

He left the Jean-Georges restaurant group in 2014 to strike out on his own: Loring Place marks Kluger’s first solo venture, and the opportunity to shine without the support of the internationally famous Vongerichten, who has more than 30 restaurants around the world including Vegas, Shanghai, Miami, and Dubai (as well as one in NYC’s Trump Tower). The road to Loring Place has been paved with no shortage of obstacles, including at least one venue change and major construction delays.

The chef tells Eater NY he wanted to highlight raw materials in the space, a reflection of the way he cooks; wood, concrete, brick, and steel all play starring, rather than supporting, roles in the design, with numerous different finishes and textures.

An actual menu has yet to surface, but it’s expected to reflect Kluger’s seasonal style, highlighting pizza, pasta, and vegetables, with dashes of Mediterranean, Indian, and Asian flavors. Loring Place is slated to open next week.
