What I'm Reading This Month - January 2017 Vision Month | Grandbaby Cakes

Happy New Year dreamers!!!  In the Soul Food Movement (join here!), January 2017 is all about Vision.  You can’t start the year without a clear one. Each month, I will be sharing some of the books I am reading that really ingrain the theme as much as possible.

The Alchemist

By Paulo Coelho

Description:  Paulo Coelho’s masterpiece tells the mystical story of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who yearns to travel in search of a worldly treasure. His quest will lead him to riches far different—and far more satisfying—than he ever imagined. Santiago’s journey teaches us about the essential wisdom of listening to our hearts, of recognizing opportunity and learning to read the omens strewn along life’s path, and, most importantly, to follow our dreams.

My thoughts: I have read this story twice before.  I absolutely LOVE how the protagonist Santiago is so much like all of us.  He is trying to figure out his path and how to listen to God’s voice and his intuition so he can be guided to his purpose.  This is truly a classic I cannot stop reading.

Pressing Reset: When Life Forces You to Start Over

By Charley Hames Jr.

Description: We all experience dark periods where we may lose our way, but it doesn’t mean that is where we are meant to stay. Just as we have become accustomed to re-booting our computers when we experience a frozen screen, the purpose of this book is to remind the reader that there is always a way to “press reset” to move forward. Pressing reset is an attitude and process that can allow us to focus on the divine design and purpose God has intended for our lives.

My thoughts:  The author of this book is actually my cousin, and he is seriously such a wise man.  This book is for those who had a difficult time in 2016 and just don’t know where to go from here!  We all can feel a little frozen in place but know that there is a way to get back to the light.  This book can definitely help you devise a plan to move forward.

You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life

By Jen Sincero

Description: If you’re ready to make some serious changes around here, You Are a Badass will help you: Identify and change the self-sabotaging beliefs and behaviors that stop you from getting what you want, blast past your fears so you can take big exciting risks, figure out how to make some damn money already, learn to love yourself and others, set big goals and reach them – it will basically show you how to create a life you totally love, and how to create it NOW.

My thoughts: Sometimes you need to quiet that crazy and doubtful voice that tells you that you can’t do something or be successful.  This book quiets that book in the most authentic and relatable way.  After reading this, you will be ready to take on the world and you will be high fiving yourself in the process!
